Hey ladies & maybe some gents! Thank you for all the positive feedback on this new blog and my last post! This time I am going to be talking about Microcurrent Facials! Some people swear by them and others it’s just not their thing! Being someone who loves to try anything I had my chance working with the amazing Charlene DeLory who has specialized in Microcurrent facials for decades! BUT before I get into the awesomeness that is Charlene I wanted to go over some basic questions and fun facts about Microcurrent facials and then I will tell you why I think they are something women should throw into their Anti-Aging regime!
What is a Microcurrent Facial ?
A microcurrent treatment, also known as microcurrent electrical neuromuscular stimulation, consists of gentle electric stimulation of muscles and tissue. During a microcurrent facial your skin cells as well as facial muscles will be targeted to tone and rejuvenate your face.
How Does a Microcurrent Facial Work?
Electric stimulation will make your facial muscles more taut, much like muscles in your body after a workout. This leads to a firmer skin and toned facial features. Gentle electric current is also known to increase blood circulation, production of collagen and elastin, and glycosaminoglycans. Glyco-what? Glycosaminoglycans, also known as “GAGs,” are large carbohydrates that encompasses proteins like collagen and elastin, and are responsible for a skin elasticity and firmness. On top of that electric stimulation has been shown to increase cell regeneration.

I have been going to my Microcurrent esthetician Charlene for about a year now, She is 71 and looks ten times younger! she has NEVER used injectables and has only used Microcurrent! I wish I had met her in my 2o’s! Not only is she inspiring but she is literally the epitome of how I want to age! Her passion for embracing your skin at any age is beautiful and she truly believes you can do it injectable free!
I TRY to go every two weeks! I find these facials to be VERY relaxing and almost like a shiatsu massage on my face! here is a picture of what the probes look like that they use on your face. Basically a gel is applied to the skin and sometimes you can feel a slight tingle but over all it’s painless, muscle groups are targeted on the face and if you have the right esthetician she will know exactly the pattern to do this in!
Now, I am 40 and I have been getting Botox since I was about 27/28 years old, at that age about once a year and very little but for prevention, even so years of paralyzing a muscle on your face can’t be good right? This is where new studies are showing Botox with the combination of microcurrent facials have wonderful benefits when used together! Where Botox is basically paralyzing the muscle the magic of of the Microcurrent probes are still exercising it and giving it life! Basically it’s a gym for your face but you just get to relax while the probes do all the work!
One of the things I find ages women the fastest is sagging jowels and there really is no miracle cream for this, the only way to remove or lift sagging jowels is by surgery and I know I would like to avoid that for as long as I can, this is why my passion for Microcurrent is so strong as I know and can see results form my treatments specially in this area! The key of course is start as early as possible, the jowles will eventually come but we can delay them!
I understand not everyone is going to be able to come to Calabasas Ca, to see Charlene but if you are in the LA area it is worth a trip for sure! You can easilygoogle a esthetician or med spa near you who offer or you can buy your own at-home Microcurrent treatment with technologies like NuFace Microcurrent Toner for Lifting and Toning the Face ($199.59, amazon.com).
To me Microcurrent technology is very promising and studies seem to indicate that it can help stop signs of aging. Many people go back and forth on this technology but for me the proof is in the pudding or on my face as well as the talented Charlene’s! Nonetheless, Microcurrent technology has been safely in use for decades. So while we don’t know exactly how it compres to other anti-aging technologies, it has been shown effective, and it’s definitely one worth trying!
Charlene has been so kind as to do a giveaway to one lucky lady for one free Microcurrent session at her office in Calabasas, Ca (transportation is not included) to learn more about Charlene please visit www.YouthfulYou.com
